Escape
Earth's Gravity
At this activity, visitors are given the opportunity to design
and load a rocket. Once satisfied with their design, visitors
then use our simulator to launch it to see if it has enough
thrust to escape Earth’s gravity.
Escape Earth's Gravity is an exciting activity that is fun
for the whole family. Escape Earth's Gravity allows visitors
to:
Learn some basic concepts of propulsion science, such
as thrust and escape velocity.
Learn about the ratio of payload to fuel.
Get an overview of the rocket engine testing work done
at Stennis Space Center.
Design a rocket by adjusting simple parameters in a screen-based
program.
Load the rocket with payload and fuel.
Launch the rocket, creating a public display of sound
and light that indicates whether or not the rocket will
escape Earth’s gravity.
