Mapping With Sound Header

Mapping With Sound ExhibitMapping With Sound

At this activity, visitors map what they cannot see by scanning an object with sound waves and viewing the results on a computer screen.

The Mapping With Sound Exhibit engages the imagination of visitors in several ways.

The Mapping With Sound Exhibit allows visitors to:

  • Learn about the concept of echo sounding.
  • Learn how consistent scanning using remote sensing tools is an important step in the creation of maps.
  • Learn about some of the sea life in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Physically manipulate a tool for scanning an object they cannot see.
  • Attempt to guess what the object is after completing the scan.
  • Look directly at the object to compare it with their scan.
