The Science Express SectionScience Express

In Science Express, visitors encounter an array of fun, fast-paced activities. This free activity area is located in INFINITY’s Welcome Area near the café,
gift shop, and ticket booth. Aimed at the drop-in visitor driving by on I-10, Science Express whets visitors’ appetites for a longer exploration in the main galleries.

Upon entering the building, visitors immediately see Science Now, a central information hub with the latest science news and live feeds streaming into INFINITY. Beneath this bank of dynamic displays, five archways lead to the Science Express activities. Since the activities in Science Express are intended as a sampler of the main galleries, the content is organized in a similar manner: ocean, atmosphere, coast, land, and space.

In addition to Science Now, Science Express features the following activities:

  • Mapping With Sound, a simulation of using sonar to map the ocean floor.
  • High Wind Tunnel, an activity in which structures are tested against hurricane force winds.
  • Wetlands Pachinko, a playful ball machine that demonstrates the role of wetlands.
  • Map My World, allows visitors to find, zoom in on, and print maps of their hometown.
  • Escape Earth’s Gravity, in which visitors design and launch a virtual rocket.
Graphics around each activity help visitors understand the science underlying the activity and the work done by NASA and other agencies at Stennis Space Center in this area of scientific investigation.
