| Mapping
With Sound
At this activity, visitors map what they cannot see by scanning
an object with sound waves and viewing the results on a computer
screen.
The Mapping With Sound Exhibit engages the imagination of
visitors in several ways.
It allows visitors to:
- Learn about the concept of echo sounding.
- Learn how consistent scanning using remote sensing tools
is an important step in the creation of maps.
- Learn about some of the sea life in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Physically manipulate a tool for scanning an object they
cannot see.
- Attempt to guess what the object is after completing
the scan.
- Look directly at the object to compare it with their
scan.
