Satellite Stations ExhibitSatellite Stations

At the Satellite Stations, visitors engage in activities that demonstrate how satellites act as our eyes and ears in space, collecting information that helps us better understand the
inter-linked systems of planet Earth and the role of life upon it.

A visitor to the Satellite Stations exhibit:

  • Learns about the different types of Earth data that satellites capture.
  • Learns about geostationary satellites and geosynchronous satellites.
  • Learns about Earth-focused satellites and their sensors.
  • Learns about how scientists integrate disparate remote sensing data to create maps and models.
  • Pans, zooms, and captures remotely sensed images of the Earth Gallery below using sensors attached to satellite models.
  • Compares the information provided by these different types of remote sensors.
  • Compares these exercises with how actual satellites collect and display information about Earth’s patterns.
